Should High Schools Require Students To Read Classics?

     High school should not require students to read the classics because some students don't read books they don't like which results in them not getting good grades on the work related to the text, which then results in them failing. In addition to this, reading certain texts won't help us in the future academically. Other than the fact that it introduces us to new vocabulary, it doesn't really do anything else to benefit us and it's just a waste of time. High schools should teach us how to write and how to help us improve on our writing instead of reading books we're all going to forget about once the year ends. It's not interesting to the majority of students and it's not beneficial either. According to the text, it states "Asking students to read books that they are unable to understand because of unfamiliar vocabulary, syntax, or underlying culture will almost surely ensure that they either won't read the books or that they won't learn what was intended by those who chose them", which supports my claim about why reading classics won't benefit us in our academic skills.
