Three Cultures

The three cultures that I'd be interested on researching are Puerto Rico, Russia, and Italy because I'm mixed with those three backgrounds and it'd be interesting to learn more about them. The one I'm the most curious about is Puerto Rico because I'm mostly Puerto Rican and I'd like to learn more about my culture.

Homework 11/3

Three strengths I can say that I have are understanding texts, using proper grammar, and analyzing certain texts. Some long term goals I have are having a good job when I'm older, being better at writing, and being successful. Some areas I'd like to improve on are being better at writing, better at homework, and improving on test grades.

Homework 10/10 (from notebook)

Some of the qualifications for being in a class group are being respectful, mature, and being understanding of the other group member's opinions on whatever topic being discussed. The reason why we need to follow these rules is because the other members should not have to feel worried about sharing their thoughts.

Homework 10/6

Enkidu from the text "The Epic of Gilgamesh" passes away in tablet seven, which was not Gilgamesh's fault. According to the text it states, "'You helped Gilgamesh, and he killed my Bull of Heaven', added Anu, father of the gods. 'One of these two must die.' 'Let it be Enkidu'." Although Enkidu died because he was with Gilgamesh, that does not necessarily mean it was Gilgamesh's fault. Later on in the text, it also states how Gilgamesh was "stalked by death" and how he's been alone. In conclusion, this is why Gilgamesh was not to blame for Enkidu's death.

Homework 10/3

Gilgamesh and Enkidu share many similarities and differences in the text, "The Epic of Gilgamesh". First of all, the two men have different viewpoints on what's right. According to the text it states, "Gilgamesh was unmatched in strength and power...He ripped sons from their fathers and demanded virgins from their husbands on their wedding nights"; which indicates that Gilgamesh doesn't show sympathy for other beings. Unlike him, Enkidu shows respect for others, which according to the text states, "A trapper and his son saw Enkidu among the animals and saw how he scared the creatures away from their traps". While the two men have their differences, they also have many similarities. Enkidu and Gilgamesh are both very physically strong. According to the text, it states, "When Enkidu arrived in Uruk, the people whispered, 'This is the wild man. He is the only one who can stop Gilgamesh'...When Gilgamesh arrived to take the bride, Enkidu stood in his way. Like two bulls they fought. The door post splintered. The walls shook. The floor trembled."

Homework 9/27

In the "Harry Potter" movie, there were many scenes that related to the Hero's Journey, but the scene that stood out to me the most was the scene in the beginning, where Harry breaks the glass for the snake tank at the zoo. This scene reminded me of the call to adventure. The reason why I chose this scene for call to adventure instead of choosing the scene where Harry finds out he's a wizard is because this scene shows how Harry realizes what he can do, making him curious and even though it didn't really show this in the movie, he probably was thinking about how he did this and what else he could do; making this the first call to adventure.

Homework 9/20

The book that I still haven't finished reading is "Of Mice and Men", I'm almost done with it though, and so far I can say that I have mixed feelings about it being connected to the "Hero's Journey" rubric thing we learned about in class. This book has some things in relation to it, such as the call to adventure and the crisis. I know there's a death at the end because I got spoiled sadly so I guess that counts too(?) So that is why I believe that this book has some things in common to the hero's journey rubric. Also I didn't know if I should've typed this here or if I should give it to you on paper tomorrow?

Homework 9/15

1.)  After reading the article provided, I believe that iPads in the classrooms can benefit me because it would be easier to find sources. The material and the references would also be up to date.

2.)  The use of iPads would essentially be useful for my classes because of the recourse aspect. Instead of leaving the house to go to the library to find a book on something, you could just search it on your device easily and get all the information you need. You also do not have to worry about getting books that are outdated, if you were to search something on the internet, it would most likely be dated.
